Chris Garlock is Executive Director of the Labor Heritage Foundation, which celebrates “the art and soul of the American labor movement” by preserving, promoting and strengthening labor culture, history and the arts.
Chris provides overall leadership for LHF’s programs and operations, working with staff and the Board of Directors on organizational strategy, budgeting, fundraising, membership and partnerships. He oversees LHF’s communications and serves as lead editor of its weekly newsletter. He also develops relationships with unions, artists, historians, filmmakers, educators and labor organizations to expand the reach and impact of LHF’s work.
Chris produces the annual DC Labor FilmFest—one of the world’s few labor-themed film festivals—and helps organize the Great Labor Arts Exchange, LHF’s annual awards and other events. He also guides the development of LHF’s online labor arts, culture, history and landmark databases.
As part of LHF’s radio and podcast team, Chris co-hosts and produces the Labor Heritage Power Hour with Elise Bryant, airing Thursdays at 1 p.m. Eastern on WPFW 89.3 FM in Washington, DC. He produces the Labor History Today, Labor Radio Podcast Daily and Labor Radio Podcast Weekly podcasts and helps identify stories, book guests, conduct interviews, write scripts and edit programs.
Chris also coordinates the international Labor Radio Podcast Network and Global Labor FilmFest Network, connecting and promoting labor media producers and film festivals around the world.
Before joining LHF, Chris served as Union Cities/Street Heat Coordinator for the Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO, where he supported local organizing, mobilization and solidarity campaigns. He has worked for decades as a labor communicator across print, radio, podcasting and digital media.
A strong amateur Go player, Chris edits the American Go E-Journal, the largest English-language publication about the game of Go, and is an avid pickleball player. He lives in Takoma Park, Maryland with his wife Lisa and their cats Bear and Monkey.
