About this event

Barbara Kopple’s Academy Award-winning Harlan County, USA unflinchingly documents a coal miners’ strike in a small Kentucky town. With unprecedented access, Kopple and her crew captured the miners’ sometimes violent struggles during the 1973 “Brookside Strike.” (Barbara Kopple, 1976, DCP, 120 minutes)

Part of the Unearthed: Mining on Film series, programmed in conjunction with the exhibition Beneath the Surface: Mining and American Photography.
