IATSE Strike Halts Filming of ‘CoComelon’ Spin-Off in California

Filming on CoComelon: The Melon Patch came to a halt May 6 when 22 crew members walked off the job in Sun Valley, California, demanding union recognition from IATSE.

The strike began midway through a planned 16-day shoot for the live-action YouTube spin-off. Pickets lined up outside the Stage This studio soundstage as workers charged that the production was understaffed and crew members were being overworked.

According to IATSE, crew members moved to organize after work began on the show’s second season, seeking fair wages and industry-standard benefits. The union says management refused to bargain.

“IATSE is ON STRIKE against CoComelon: The Melon Patch,” the union declared on Instagram, adding that producers have attempted to bring in replacement workers during the walkout.
