Chris Garlock | Published on 6/12/2025
Highlights of the annual Great Labor Arts Exchange are the Friday night Song and Poetry Contest and Saturday night LABORPALOOZA CONCERT. Both are free and open to the public and both will be held at McGinty’s Public House (see poster for details). You do not need to be registered for the conference to enter – or attend -- the contest, which will award $1,000 in prizes in categories including The Jon Fromer “String-buster” Ballad, The Talkin’ Union/Hip-Hop Piece, The Joe Glazer Best Union Song and The Julie McCall Best Parody; click here for details. Deadline to enter is 5p Thursday, June 19.
There’s still time to register for the Great Labor Arts Exchange (June 20-22 at the Silver Spring Civic Building, starting at 4p Friday, June 20), which includes sessions like Carsie Blanton’s “Red Scared: How the FBI and CIA De-Politicized American Art and Music” and “The Union’s Inspiration: Solidarity Through Singing” presented by members of the Pittsburgh Labor Chorus.
