AFT’s Randi Weingarten accepts LHF’s 2023 Solidarity Award

(May 2, 2023) “Joy is an act of spiritual and political resistance,” said AFT president Randi Weingarten on Tuesday night, accepting the 2023 Labor Heritage Foundation’s Solidarity Forever Award.

“Tonight, being feted by songs of struggle, songs of hope, songs of aspiration, songs of freedom, does the same thing…is who we are. We represent opportunity in America and in the world, done person by person, understanding that individually we are not nearly as strong as we are together. That together, we can accomplish what’s impossible to do alone, and what we are trying to do together is a better life for all.”

“We fight for a better life with song and with dance and with music,” said Weingarten. “We kneel into the fight. We don’t shy away from the fight. But we do it as a community of labor lifting all up.”
